Happy ducks at home

Ducks are easy to keep once they have the basics.

  • Water to dip in

Ducks need water deep enough to dip their whole head, to keep their eyes and nostrils clean. A tub works as well as a pond.

  • Safe at night

Shut them into a secure house every night. Ducks can’t fly away from dogs and other predators.

  • Feed and forage

Layer feed, with plenty of greens. They’ll happily forage for insects, slugs and grass too.

  • Finding the eggs

Ducks usually lay early in the morning. Let them out mid-morning and the eggs will be in the house, not hidden in the garden.
